Help the society make sure no one faces loneliness alone.

At Open Ear Foundation, we provide free, confidential companionship to anyone experiencing loneliness or isolation. Our service is powered entirely by warm, well-trained volunteers and we’d love you to become one of them.

What you’ll be doing: As a Volunteer Community Connection Officer , you’ll be a friendly, reassuring voice for people who simply need someone to listen. From the comfort of your own home, you will:

  • Make regular companionship calls ( video) to people facing loneliness
  • Listen with warmth, patience, and without judgement
  • Build genuine, trusted connections through ongoing conversations
  • Help people feel heard, valued, and less alone
  • Share simple feedback with our team so we can keep improving our support

Your time, your way, total flexibility:

  • You choose your own day and time: mornings, evenings, or weekends, whatever fits around your life
  • Work entirely from home: all you need is a phone or laptop and a quiet space
  • Very flexible commitment: even one hour a week makes a real difference
  • Pause or adjust your hours whenever life gets busy, no pressure, ever

What you’ll gain:

  • Full training provided: no prior experience needed; we’ll equip you with active listening and safeguarding skills
  • Valuable experience for careers in counselling, social work, healthcare, psychology, HR, or the charity sector
  • A reference for future employment or studies after your time with us
  • New skills in communication, empathy, and emotional support
  • The deep satisfaction of knowing your voice genuinely changed someone’s week
  • Becoming part of a supportive, friendly volunteer community

Corporate & technical benefits you’ll enjoy:

  • Certified e-learning: free Safeguarding Adults training on our online learning platform, with a printable certificate when you pass
  • Your own staff dashboard: a professional dashboard where you manage your schedules and tasks in a few clicks
  • Smart scheduling: set your availability at your own convenience.
  • Ongoing supervision & support: regular check-ins, and a supportive debrief whenever a call feels heavy

Who we’re looking for: You don’t need qualifications, just a kind heart, a good ear, and reliability. If you’re a naturally caring person who believes nobody should feel invisible, you’ll fit right in. (All volunteers complete a short induction and our confidentiality agreement; a DBS check may be required.)

Ready to make a positive impact? Apply today  as training starts soon, and your first conversation could change a life. Maybe even yours.
